Raceview takes its name from an early racecourse established around 1850 near Grange Road, Silkstone — a course that operated for about 25 years before the local jockey club moved to the Bundamba Racecourse. A primary school opened in 1901 for families working in farming, quarries and the Aberdere Extended No.1 Colliery — established in 1909 on Raceview's eastern edge near Bundamba Creek. The mine ruins are still visible from Owen Street today. During World War II, American armed forces established a war cemetery near the Ipswich Cemetery — the remains were shipped home in 1947 and the site became Manson Park. A post-war drive-in theatre on Cascade Street later became the Cascade Gardens Retirement Village.
